Website Promotion - Writing Articles May Be Better Than Hiring By Charles Essmeier, Thu Dec 8th
It is a well-known fact that a key to obtaining a good searchengine position is having a lot of other Websites link to yours. The quantity is important, and the quality is important, too. Alink to your site from Amazon.com is regarded by the searchengines as more important than a link fromNever-Heard-Of-It.com. How can someone with a fairly new Websiteobtain links from other sites? Quite easily, as it happens.Write articles about your Website’s topics and publish them onthe Web. It is easy to do, it provides fairly fast results, andit is less expensive and safer than if you hired a company topromote your Website for you. Writing articles is easy.Just find a topic that relates to your Website and write whatyou know about it. Offer informative tips, information or otherfactoids that may interest the public about your topic. It neednot be long; 250-500 words is just fine. At the bottom of yourarticle, you may include a brief bio about yourself and you mayinclude a link to your site. The next step is to search for“submit free content” in your favorite search engine. You willfind many sites that accept articles from anyone who wishes tocontribute. You usually publish an article
by simply cutting andpasting into an online form. The Website where you publish yourarticle shares your article with other sites that wish torepublish them. Each time this happens, you’ll get another linkback to your Website. It only takes a minute to publish anarticle, and I have seen additional links back to my site in aslittle as 12 hours! It works, and it’s free! The more articlesyou write, the more the links to your Website will propagatethroughout the Internet. But what about hiring a searchengine optimization (SEO) company? Can’t you hire someone topromote your site for you? Yes, you can. These companies willmodify your site to make it more search engine friendly, andthey may recommend some other promotion techniques, such aspay-per-click advertising. Depending on your financial situationand the amount of free time you have, such companies mayrepresent a good investment. Unfortunately, there are alsounscrupulous Website promotion companies out there, and thereseem to be more of those than legitimate ones. I got a call justlast week from one such company that promised to place myWebsite at the very top of the first page of Google’s searchresults. They also promised to provide thousands of links to mysite. I declined their offer, but did some research on thecompany. What I found is that they have done business underthree different names in the last year, they’ve used hiddenlink, hidden code and other techniques that search engines don’tlike, they’ve built Web pages that plagiarize from other sitesand they’ve done work that results in their clients beingblacklisted from the major search engines.
These thingsweigh heavily against their promise of having thousands of linksthat point to my site. I see no reason to pay thousands ofdollars for a service that may obtain links for me or may get mysite blacklisted on the major search engines. I’d rather save mymoney and obtain the links myself by writing and publishingarticles. It’s safe, fast, and inexpensive. And it works.
